Giorgia is a delightful ten year old girl who has a degenerative physical disability and intellectual disability. Giorgia has an extremely rare congenital muscular dystrophy. As a result of this condition, Giorgia uses a wheelchair for mobility and is dependent on others for all aspects of her personal care. Giorgia’s access to the community is limited, attending an educational support school and attends a local swimming school on occasions.

Currently, the family are a single income family and have struggled financially getting by with an early model Commodore Sedan where the family has struggled to transfer Giorgia in and out of the car safely due to her size.  This has resulted with the family rarely going out together and Giorgia’s community outings are limited to those essential.

This impacts significantly on Giorgia’s quality of life but also on her ability to improve her physical and emotional well-being by participating in communal activities readily accessible by her non-disabled peers. Make a Difference WA was delighted to provide a modified accessible vehicle suitable to accommodate Giorgia and her family but more importantly improve their quality of life.
